PRESS RELEASE: Caucus Launches with Rep. Chabot as New Co-Chair
Caucus will fight for bipartisan support for Israel to remain strong
PRESS RELEASE - On Tuesday night around 100 Jewish and Christian leaders gathered on Capitol Hill to celebrate the relaunch of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus Reception in the U.S. House. Congressman Steve Chabot (R-OH), a senior Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, was announced as the 4th Co-Chair of the bipartisan Caucus. Rep. Chabot has a long history of bipartisan support for Israel.
“I strongly support Israel, and I have been a longtime supporter of strengthening U.S.-Israel relations,” Congressman Chabot said. “I am honored to join as the fourth Co-Chair of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus; and in this capacity I look forward to continuing to work together with my colleagues to deepen our support for Israel. I invite every Member of Congress who supports Israel to join this Caucus and work together to advance legislation that strengthens this critical alliance.”
Almost a dozen members of Congress attended, joined the Caucus and made statements encouraging bipartisan support in the current political climate.
“The last few years have been monumental for the U.S. Israel relationship,” remarked Rep. Doug Lamborn, Caucus Co-Chair at the event. “President Trump boldly recognized Jerusalem as the true capital of Israel, something we in Congress have been fighting for years. He subsequently moved our embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and most importantly he recently recognized Israel’s sovereignty in the Golan Heights. These meaningful actions send the strong message to our friends in Israel and around the world that America is restoring our relationship with Israel […] I invite my colleagues to join this bipartisan caucus to continue to support our democratic ally in the Middle East, Israel.”
Several other Members of Congress spoke as well, together with Members of the Israel Allies Foundation Board, the Hon. Dr. Dave Weldon, a founding Member of the Caucus and the Hon. Mike Sodrel, also a former Member.
Christian leaders, pastors and businessmen from Texas, South Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida and others also joined with officials from the Israeli Embassy, Jewish leaders, and special guests from Israel to celebrate the evening.
The Israel Allies Foundation works with Congress and parliaments around the world to mobilize political support for Israel based on Judeo-Christian values.
