Congressman Lamborn Introduces Bipartisan Resolution Urging Congress to Provide Israel with Interceptor Missiles

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Doug Lamborn co-led the introduction of a bipartisan House Resolution affirming Congress’ intent to provide Israel with sufficient material to defend itself against rocket strikes from Hamas and its other proxy groups.

“Critical to Israel’s ability to defend itself are interceptor missile systems like the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow,” said Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05). “As Chairman of the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee, I urge Congress to provide Israel with funding for intelligent, tested systems that protect its citizens while minimizing damage. Israel must be armed with the ability to defend itself. It is important to state America’s intention to support Israel’s resolve loud and clear to the whole world.”

Co-sponsored by Representatives Lauren Boebert (CO-03), Yadira Caraveo (CO-08), Tom McClintock (CA-05), Brad Schneider (IL-10), and Randy Weber (TX-14), this House Resolution urges the U.S. Congress to provide Israel with funding for much-needed interceptor missiles in upcoming appropriations.

“America stands with Israel. Iron Dome is essential to shield Israel from the barbaric attacks aimed at its civilian population by the terrorist regime of Hamas,”said Congressman Tom McClintock (CA-05).“The war that Hamas started must end with its eradication, and we will stand behind Israel until total victory is won.”

On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists launched an unprovoked attack on the State of Israel, killing more than 1,400 people and kidnapping more than 200 hostages. Israeli Defense Forces reported that Hamas has fired nearly 2,500 rockets, while Hamas claims it has fired 5,000 since October 7, 2023. Hamas admits to manufacturing its own rockets from materials like water pipes and uses tunnels and overseas smuggling to illicitly acquire missiles.

The Iron Dome system has been used by the Israeli Defense Forces to intercept these missiles and is reported to have a high success rate when in use. Interceptor missiles like the Iron Dome system are central to Israel’s ability to protect its people against Hamas’ rocket attacks.

Iron Dome is an air defense missile system that was developed by Israeli scientists in consultation with U.S. researchers. Its development and production have been supported by U.S. funding. It is designed to shoot down short-range missiles and uses artificial intelligence to analyze incoming rounds to determine if people or facilities are in danger. Over the years, Iron Dome has prevented thousands of missiles from striking occupied areas of Israel.

Hamas was deemed a terrorist organization by the United States in 1997.
